federal affordable housing credit improvement act (ahcia)

Representatives Darin LaHood, Suzan DelBene, Claudia Tenney, Don Beyer, Randy Feenstra, and Jimmy Panetta will soon be re-introducing the federal Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act (AHCIA). This bipartisan legislation would expand and strengthen the federal Housing Tax Credit through key provisions including:

  • Increasing Housing Credit allocations by restoring the 12.5 percent cap increase that expired for 2022;
  • Lowering the bond finance threshold for 4 percent Housing Credits; and
  • Enabling the Housing Credit to better serve hard-to-reach communities including rural, Native American, high-poverty, and high-cost communities.

CHFA is reaching out to members of the Colorado delegation for their support to sign on as a co-sponsor to the legislation. With important tax negotiations ongoing in this Congress, gaining support from all members of the delegation is more important than ever.

CHFA will be circulating a letter of support to the delegation outlining the impact of the Housing Tax Credit and the need for increased resources in Colorado. If you would like to add your organization’s name to the letter of support, please complete this form.

We have heard that the following members have signed on as original co-sponsors of the AHCIA:

We are so grateful for the bipartisan support from members of the delegation who have shown their commitment to housing affordability in Colorado by signing onto the AHCIA as original co-sponsors. Please join us in thanking these members!

We will send additional information with further opportunities for support after the bill is introduced, which is expected early next week. In the meantime, please contact your Congressperson to urge their support of the AHCIA.
