CHFA was proud to support New Legacy Charter School (NLCS) in Aurora by awarding $6 million in New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) in 2020. NLCS is a high school focused primarily on serving teen parents and their children. It is based in Aurora, serving both Adams and Arapahoe counties.
The award of NMTCs supported the school’s purchase of its existing facility from Urban Land Conservancy, helping to enable stability in budgeting for NLCS as it continues to grow and fulfill its mission. NLCS offers a safety net to Aurora’s pregnant and parenting teens who face significant attendance barriers.
NLCS believes that a college preparatory curriculum for the school’s parents is key to their success in earning a livable wage. In 2005, the Colorado Growth and Revitalization (CGR) Fund, administered by CHFA, provided gap funding for the original construction of the NLCS building.
Additionally, CHFA has been proud to invest in NLCS through sponsorship of NLCS events and Direct Effect Awards to support the school’s educational programing for students and their children.
