Joel and Laurie Benson bought the Buena Vista Roastery in 2007. The business roasts organic and fair trade coffee from growers throughout the world, then sells it wholesale across the country.

In 2012, the Bensons wanted to purchase the land under the Roastery and expand the operation to include a coffee shop and bakery. High Country Bank connected them with CHFA’s Community Development team.

“We could not get a loan from another institution, but CHFA did a great job working with us. They were patient and the people I worked with were very friendly,” says Joel. Today, the Roastery is the hub of the Buena Vista community. “It is an anchor to our main street and our town. We provide an experience to people and a sense of community,” said Joel.
