Shortly following its establishment by the Colorado General Assembly, CHFA launched its Loans-to-Lenders program to support responsible, affordable homeownership opportunities for Coloradans. This involved partnering with a network of local lenders to issue CHFA home loans to qualified homebuyers. In 1975, when the program was initiated, CHFA partnered with seven lenders to issue mortgages to 735 households.

Eight years later, in 1983, CHFA made a total of 9,326 home mortgage loans. That included 759 loans in Mesa County, one of which supported Anna, a single mother, in purchasing a home in Grand Junction. Anna, who was photographed alongside her daughter Kelli, is one of the first CHFA homeowners to be featured in a CHFA Community Report.

“It was really exciting for me because it’s the first thing I have ever done like this,” said Anna in CHFA’s 1983 Community Report. “It has two bedrooms and a two-car garage. It is perfect for me and my daughter Kelli. I am really happy here.”

Over the last five decades, CHFA has supported more than 153,000 customers through its homeownership programs and served more than 197,000 households through CHFA-sponsored homebuyer education classes.
